Alexandra Udriste

The nightmare which stole Alexandra’s childhood started in November 2007.  She was 2 and a half at that time.  She caught a cold.  The family doctor prescribed a treatment but her symptoms did not go away.  She has an irritating cough and so her parents decided to undergo more investigations.
Her blood tests showed low levels of certain markers so the little girl was referred for an ultrasound and a CT scan.  The results of these additional tests sent her directly to the Operating Room.   The doctors of the  Grigore Alexandrescu  hospital took out a tumour from her liver and diagnosed her – NEUROBLSATOMA.  6 months of chemotherapy followed.  Then followed another incredibly awful diagnosis: her right kidney had stopped functioning, it was atrophied.  She was operated on again – her kidney was taken out. The tumour had found its way there.  6 more months of chemotherapy followed.  After one  year of such struggle in the chemotherapy treatment, tumours were found in her ganglions.  These were growing very fast.  Alexandra was sent for radiotherapy in the Elias hospital. Then to another check, in the Fundeni hospital.  The doctors’ conclusion was that the chemotherapy had been given in too little dosages and the disease had relapsed and progressed.
Her parents made the decision to get the opinion of foreign doctors.  They went to the Cancer Institute  „Gustave Roussy” – in Paris.
Alexandra was welcomed with open arms in a clinic where she was told she will had high chances of recovery ... Unfortunately, it wasn’t so ....
Alexandra died on August 14, 2009, only 4 years and 3 months old.
